What IP ratings mean, and which one you need
An IP rating has two digits. The first describes protection against solid objects and dust, the second against water. The higher the digit, the stronger the protection.
IP42 protects against objects larger than 1 mm and dripping water, and suits dry indoor rooms. IP54 is dust-protected and resists water splashes, and suits workshops and covered areas. IP66 is dust-tight and withstands powerful water jets, and suits outdoor and washdown locations.
If the box will sit outdoors in sun, dust or rain, choose the higher rating. If you are unsure, tell us where it will be installed and we will recommend one.

A junction box houses and protects cable connections, keeping joints away from dust, water and accidental contact.

Choose by the IP rating of the model. Models rated up to IP66 are dust-tight and withstand powerful water jets. Check the rating on each product, or ask us before you order.
